Reflection on PRAYER FOR NIGERIA IN DISTRESS!

Gen 18 : 16 - 33, Matt 8 : 18 - 22.It was revealed to Abraham as a righteous man that the Lord's outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is so great and their sin so grave. Abraham interceded in vain because he could not get even 10 righteous men there who were truly on God's side. I want to look at Nigeria in distress today. Sodom and Gomorrah has so many things in common with Nigeria ; It was a land rich with mineral resources and wealth and like Nigeria, the leaders were busy plundering their resources. There were all forms of atrocities as we have in Nigeria today ; bribery and corruption, immorality of the highest order ( especially homosexuality), examination malpractice of executive degree, brutal murder and gross insecurity of life's and property, favouritism and partiality even among the judiciary, etc. The worst situation was the insensitivity of the Church ; the people of God then like the family of Lot were quite insensitive to the dangers. Lot's wife inspite of all warnings remained so carnal and looked back at the material things they were told to forsake and was turned into salt.
Today, we are faced with the danger of Islamization and Fulanization. The South Eastern politicians are busy pursuing their selfish interests while a good number of Christians are busy enjoying the crumbs of Egypt ( the N - power and the Market moni) while the 'Sons of Uthman fan fodio' are busy trying to secure land, weapons of war for Islamization and grazing colonies for their cattle. It is true that some people are praying like Abraham did but is it just enough for an insignificant number to be praying without doing something that can change the situation/ attitude of the majority positively? Today's gospel makes it clear that the call to follow Christ is total, urgent and immediate. The Lord is gathering his righteous together for imminent perilous days ahead but many don't seem to read the handwriting on the wall. Many Christians, like Lot's wife are still busy being distracted by the material pursuits in a sinking ship like people rearranging the seats of the Titanic. Our people say : 'Onye ulo ya na agba oku anugu achu oke'. We need to be spiritually and militantly alert now more than ever as we continue to pray like Abraham did for our country Nigeria in distress. May God bless you today!
