Israeli troops kill two Palestinians in Jenin raid

Two Palestinian men were shot and killed by Israeli forces during a raid in a refugee camp in the West Bank.

Israeli soldiers have shot and killed two Palestinians during an operation in the occupied West Bank.

These latest deaths raise the number of Palestinians killed in the last week to ten.

The Palestinian health ministry said that Naeem Zubaidi, 27, and Mohammad Saadi, 26, were killed in the Jenin refugee camp in the northern West Bank.

Armed Israeli troops, backed by armored vehicles, stormed the refugee camp and targeted a dwelling with anti-tank missiles.

Eyewitnesses say that violent clashes broke out between the soldiers and Palestinian militants.

The continuing unrest came after a week of deadly violence in the region.

Tension in the West Bank has been mounting since the beginning of 2022. Official figures from both sides showed that since January, more than 200 Palestinians and more than 20 Israelis have been killed in a series of attacks.

Last week, twin blasts shook Jerusalem, killing an Israeli-Canadian teenager and injuring at least 18 others.

Soon after, two Palestinians died of wounds sustained from Israeli gunfire around the northern West Bank city of Nablus.

Speaking earlier this week, the United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Tor Wennesland, cautioned that the conflict was "again reaching a boiling point."
