President of Brazil Lula begins third term

Luiz Inacio Lula Da Silva, popularly known as Lula, has begun his first full day in office, after he was sworn in as Brazil’s President on New Year’s Day.

Luiz Inacio Lula Da Silva is the only Brazilian President to have been elected to a third term. His first epoch was between 2003 and 2010.

During his first two terms, Lula’s economic and welfare policies helped to pull millions of people out of poverty.

He left office with a record 83 percent popularity. His lowest point was being convicted of corruption and jailed, protesting his innocence throughout.

His conviction was quashed, and now he is president again at the age of 77.

His Inauguration pledge is of hope and reconstruction, and he has a daunting task ahead of him.

The pandemic ravaged Brazil, further worsening an already steep economic downturn which descended further into a full-blown recession.

Lula won back the Presidency after all these years, following a neck and neck race, with a slither margin of less than a 2 percent in the second round.

A former metal worker and union leader, talking about poverty often makes Lula emotional and tearful.

He has vowed to prioritize combatting poverty, while boosting health and education.

He’s promising to create a Brazil of all, for all. Yet, his third term in office will require unprecedented energy.
