Brothers and sisters:
Concerning those who are not married, I do not have a direct instruction from the Lord, but I share my judgment as someone who has received the Lord’s mercy and can be trusted.
Because of the current challenges, I think it is good for a person to remain in his or her present situation. If you are married, do not seek separation. If you are unmarried, do not feel pressured to marry. If you do marry, you do not do wrong. However, married life brings responsibilities and difficulties, and I would prefer to spare you from that.
I tell you, brothers and sisters, time is short. From now on, those who are married should not become overly attached; those who are sad should not remain overwhelmed; those who are joyful should not become carried away; those who buy things should not cling to possessions; those who deal with the world should not depend on it completely.
For the present order of things is temporary and passing.

This is the word of the Lord.
R. Thanks be to God.

Responsorial Psalm
Psalm 45
R. Listen, daughter, and pay attention.

1. Listen carefully and consider;
leave behind what is familiar.
The king delights in your beauty,
for he is your lord.
R. Listen, daughter, and pay attention.

2. The king’s daughter enters in splendor,
her clothing adorned with fine gold.
She is led to the king with joy,
followed by her companions.
R. Listen, daughter, and pay attention.

3. They are brought in with happiness;
they enter the royal palace.
Your descendants will take the place of your ancestors;
they will be honored throughout the land.
R. Listen, daughter, and pay attention.

Alleluia
Luke 6:23
Alleluia, alleluia.
Rejoice and be glad;
your reward will be great in heaven.
Alleluia.

Gospel
Luke 6:20–26

Jesus looked at his disciples and said:
Blessed are you who are poor,
for the Kingdom of God belongs to you.
Blessed are you who are hungry now,
for you will be satisfied.
Blessed are you who are sorrowful now,
for you will find joy.
Blessed are you when people reject or insult you because of the Son of Man. Be glad on that day, for your reward will be great in heaven. In the past, the prophets were treated in the same way.
But caution to you who are rich,
for you have already received your comfort.
Caution to you who are satisfied now,
for you will experience need.
Caution to you who laugh now,
for you will later experience sorrow.
Caution to you when everyone praises you,
for false prophets were treated in that same way.

This is the Gospel of the Lord.
R. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
